Battle in the Saddle breaks record!  The 2010 Pedal for Hope team celebrated their 5th Battle in the Saddle stationary cycling competition by shattering their previous fundraising record and raising $23,161.03!

Starting Friday March 19, this years event saw 15 teams cycle for a 24 hour period at Lansdowne Place. Each team raised at least $1200 with all funds raised going to the Canadian Cancer Society in support of pediatric cancer research.

A special thank you to Lansdowne Place for all their support and to the sponsors that helped make Battle in the Saddle possible: Subway, Rocky Ridge & Pepsi QTG and Tim Hortons.

Since it’s inception, the Pedal for Hope team has partnered with the Canadian Cancer Society to raise over $750,000 for pediatric cancer research. This year the team is working harder than ever and striving for great heights with ambitions to reach the million dollar mark. The Pedal for Hope school tour kicks off it's 1000 kilometre journey on April 19th.

New this year is the exciting online fundraising campaign! Participating schools will have the option of having their students create their own fundraising pages telling their own stories, sharing pictures and showing why they are choosing to be involved in the Pedal for Hope fundraising campaign.
Subway Online Challenge!

To add to this great new feature, each school is encouraged to participate in the Subway Online Challenge! The winner will see the top online fundraising student in each of the four counties (Peterborough City, Peterborough County, Haliburton County, Northumberland County & City of Kawartha Lakes) will receive an individual prize as well as a complete Subway lunch for his or her entire class!

2009 Shatters Record and exceeds goal

The 5th annual Pedal for Hope campaign held its wrap up celebration on June 18th, announcing to local media that $207,450 was raised for pediatric cancer research.

As always, the tour saw the Pedal for Hope team traveling by bike over 1,000 kilometres to schools in the area raising funds and awareness about cancer. This outstanding achievement would not have been possible without the incredible support of students and staff at these schools. Thank you for participation and drive to making this event a success year after year.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors who generously donated time, money and supplies to make this 1,000 kilometre journey a reality. Your ongoing commitment to help us achieve our goals year after year continues to profile your strong values about community partnership and support. Thank you.

Finally the Pedal for Hope team wants to thank the Canadian Cancer Society for its ongoing support of our fundraising event. We look forward to working together towards the 2010 campaign and seeing everyone out to break next year’s record!

The Pedal For Hope Cycling Team was honoured to be invited guests to Question Period at Parliament Hill on Tuesday, May 13 2009 by Peterborough MP Dean Delmastro.

The team was recognized in the House of Commons by all Members and then had the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

It was an experience that team members will not soon forget.

While 9 riders and RCMP Constable Rick Allen, who led the team in an RCMP cruiser were in attendance, it is clear that they were there representing team members, teachers, students and tour sponsors, all of who continue to tackle this great cause.

The team is anxious to announce a fundraising total, which should happen in mid June. Their goal, to hit $ 500,000 over the tour's 4 year life!

Battle in the Saddle Raises $14,500 for Pediatric Cancer Research

The Pedal For Hope Team would like to congratulate all the teams who participated in the 4th annual Battle in the Saddle stationary cycling competition.

Teams of cyclist from Peterborough Fire Dept., Peterborough EMS, Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Auxiliary unit, Peterborough County O.P.P Auxiliary unit, Douro Dummer Fire Dept., Wildrock, Runners Life, Trent University, S.S.F.C Police Foundations & It's A Great Life hopped on stationary bikes and cycled for 24 hours straight.

At the end of the event the teams had raised $14,500 for the Canadian Cancer Society and we had our new champion teams. In the competitive division 'It's a great life' came from behind to take the lead on the second day and with 5 hours to go in the event, never looked back. They ended up winning the Competitive Division with over 1200km's.

Our defending champions from the Peterborough Fire Dept put up great numbers but fell short in the end and finished up in second place.

In our Recreational Division, the team from the Douro Dummer Fire Dept lead the race from start to finish and were crowned the champions with over 800 km's.

Our 'virtual Reality' 4.6km time trial race competition was won by Todd Wood from Runners Life with a time of 7:05.

Honourable mention goes to Kim Vardy for completing the 24 hour marathon as a solo rider team. "Great Job Kim". We would like to thank all the teams for participating and special thanks to all our sponsors for making our event such a success,
