Rider Profiles

Marc Habgood

Sergeant Marc Habgood joined the Peterborough Lakefield Police Service in 1985. Marc is currently working in uniform patrol. Marc has been a dedicated supporter of Cops for Cancer for 15 years and is looking forward to the 4th year as a member of the Pedal For Hope Cycling Team. Marc ran his 3rd marathon, the Boston Marathon in the spring of 2006 and was part of the National Ironcops team finishing the 2006 Ironman Canada Championship in Penticton, B.C. in August.

Marc is riding with the Pedal For Hope team in support of Nathan and Danielle and in the memory of Graham Clarke.

Marc Habgood

Marc continues to be motivated by the fight and determination shown by “Cracker”. Marc is very appreciative of the support the team receives from sponsors and the family and special friends battling this terrible disease. He also is very thankful for the support from his family for allowing the time commitments to support Pedal For Hope!

John Townsend

John is in his 7th year of policing and is currently assigned to the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Traffic Management Unit. He enjoys cycling, watching movies and spending time with his wife Karen and his two daughters, Amanda & Kaitlyn.

In 2005 & 2006 John competed in the Peterborough Subaru team half ironman as well as the Milbrook Adventure racing series where he placed second. John has been the co-chair of the Cops For Cancer committee for 5 years and created the 'Pedal For Hope' in September of 2004. John can be seen on most sunny days riding his police motorcycle around the community.

Constable Gary Pilling has been a police officer for 7 years and is currently assigned to the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service, General Patrol. Gary enjoys hockey, baseball, cycling and all other sports. Gary enjoys spending time with his wife Sherrie Lynne and 3 kids, Cody, Nathan and Breanna.

Dave McNab

Dave McNab Has been a police officer for 20 years, having served with the Peterborough O.P.P. for 15. He has ridden bicycles for years as a means of keeping fit and for recreation. Dave was thrilled when he was offered the opportunity to join the Pedal for Hope team and put this passion behind finding a cure and treatments for cancer.

Dave has always believed that compassion for others is not enough; we also need to recognize our responsibility and make a positive change in the lives of others. Dave has been thrilled to see such tremendous support from the businesses and individuals in the communities around us.

Dave McNab

Pedal for Hope's success would not be possible without that support. And of course, the children involved are the driving force behind Pedal for Hope. We couldn't do it without you! See you on the tour.

John Druce

John is the only member of the Pedal For Hope team who is not a police officer. He not only grew up in Peterborough , but played hockey with the Peterborough Petes from 1984-1986 and has been a member of the Pedal For Hope team since inception. John was drafted into the NHL in 1985 and played 14 years of professional hockey.

He spent time playing with the Washington Capitals, Winnipeg Jets, Los Angeles Kings and played in the Stanley Cup finals with the Philadelphia Flyers in 1997.

John Drucer

Currently John is a financial advisor with Freedom 55 Financial. Today, instead of assisting his teammates on the ice, he focuses on helping families and businesses who work with him to achieve their goals and dreams John is the proud father of two beautiful daughters and is an avid sports enthusiast.

He enjoys golf, wakeboarding, snowboarding, and loves spending time cycling. Pedal For Hope is close to John's heart as his daughter Courtney was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2004 and continues to valiantly fight her battle. The smiles on the kid's faces say it all as the team rides into their schools. We know that we wouldn't be able to achieve our goals without them on our team.

Tim Farquharson

Tim Farquharson is a Sgt. with the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service. He became involved in the Cops For Cancer, Pedal For Hope cycling tour due to the fact that as several other people, he has had several close personal friends and family stricken by the disease and wanted to contribute to raising money and awareness in the hopes of a cure in the near future.

The specific cause of pediatric cancer is especially important to him because these children have not had a chance to live to their potential and have done nothing to deserve their plight. He has been a police officer for 20 years and in his spare time loves to coach children in various sports. He plays hockey and loves to go to the gym and ride motorcycles in his spare time.

Tim Farquharson

He has three children who are sixteen fourteen and twelve and who he spends a lot of time hanging out with and are the light and inspiration of his life. As a hobby he runs an alpaca farm these creatures to me are among the most beautiful and gentle creatures in the world.

Keith Calderwood

Constable Keith Calderwood (Caldzy) is currently in his fourth year with Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service and is assigned to general patrol. Weighing in at a mere 1/8 of a tonne, Caldzy would have guessed that Sumo wrestling would be more of his sport as opposed to cycling. However, now entering his fourth year with the Pedal for Hope tour, he still prefers wearing his bib shorts over his mawashi. Caldzy enjoys many other sports including hockey, soccer, croquet, ping pong and shuffle board. Quality time is spent with his wife Carrie, his daughter Emma and his new son Drew.

Caldzy decided to become a member of the pedal for cycling team after he lost his dad (Robert) to cancer in 1995. Watching his father deteriorate from this dreadful disease, Caldzy knew he had to become more involved in the fight against cancer.

Keith Calderwood

"Helping support children who are fighting Cancer just seems to be a proper fit" Caldzy reminds the special friends "Cancer may break your body, but never let it break your soul".

Lindsey Wallwork

Constable Lindsey Wallwork has been a police officer for 1 year and is currently assigned to the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service, General Patrol.

Lindsey enjoys sports and is a huge Toronto Maple Leafs fan. Lindsey is Pedal For Hope's first and only female police officer to join the team.

Lindsey is excited to be a part of the Pedal for Hope Team and can't wait for the tour to start.

Lindsey Wallwork

Mark Elliott

Sergeant Mark "Ellmo" Elliott is in his 20th year of policing, all with the Peterborough Lakefield Police Service. He is currently assigned to uniform patrol but has many other duties which include being a member of the Emergency Response Team, a Taser Instructor, use of force and firearms instructor, and all around good guy.

Mark has been involved in team sports/activities his entire life and has always enjoyed riding bicycles, so being a member of the Pedal For Hope team is a natural fit.

Mark Elliott

As a police officer and a father, Mark recognizes his responsibility to the community he serves, and wants to do his part to make living with Cancer a distant memory.

Gerry Smith

Gerry was born and raised in the Peterborough/Ennismore area and has 2 teenage girls Melissa and Andrea and two step daughters Tanya and Tina. Gerry has been a member of the Ontario Provincial Police for 20 years, currently working at Peterborough County Detachment as a Sergeant/shift supervisor.

There are a number of reasons why Gerry became involved in the Pedal for Hope Tour. He enjoys cycling and being involved in the positive environment the students provide, but first and foremost, he supports Paediatric Cancer research.

Gerry Smith

This touches him in a personal way. His niece is a young teenager named Rebecca Wright. Rebecca lives in the Peterborough Area and attends Chemong Public School in Bridgenorth. On the 21st of August 1998 , just prior to her 4th birthday, Rebecca
was diagnoses with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL). She began treatment immediately. After five years of aggressive treatment, at 9 years of age, she went into remission. To date she is declared Leukemia free with only a 1% chance recurrence. If the money we raise during the tour makes the difference in one child's life then it's worth it.

Scott Masters

Scott Masters is an Auxillary Police Constable with the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service and a Douro/Dummer Firefighter.

I am a husband to Brenda for 18yrs with two kids Marcus 12 and Breanna 15. I am proud to serve my community and I am an avid sports fan, love hockey. I enjoy helping others thru charity events. I joined the Pedal For Hope team in its second year and am honoured to be part of an organization that helps children.

Scott Masters

To be part of a great team that helps put a smile on a child's face makes me proud to share in the dream, that someday cancer can and will be beaten. A little love goes a long way in the heart of a child and lets their loved ones know their not alone in this fight.

Kirk Kelly

Kirk Kelly has been a member of the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service for just under a year now. Prior to joining the police service Kirk had always been impressed with the Pedal For Hope cause and is honoured to be a part of it.

Kirk enjoys all sports and has competed in numerous running races over the years from the mile to the marathon. Kirk has also competed in several multisport events, his favourite being the duathlon. Quality time is spent with his wife Amy and their one year old daughter Ava.

Kirk's motivation stems from his own mother's battle with cancer. She lost the fight on 7NOV05, however her incredible courage and strength will always be remembered.

Trevor Banbury

Trevor Banbury is one of the newest members of the Pedal for Hope Team, having joined this year. He is a shift Sergeant with the Peterborough County OPP and has been a police officer for 13 years. Trevor has been married to his wife, Charlene for 10 years and is the father of two wonderful young boys, Ian and Scott. Both Trevor and his wife were raised in the Peterborough area and decided early in their respective careers to make Peterborough their home so their children could enjoy the same lifestyles and advantages they had while growing up.

Several of Trevor's close family and friends, both adults and children, have been diagnosed with cancer and its associated forms. Trevor's decision to join the Pedal for Hope Team was influenced by this and he felt that now was the time give back to those he cares about and the community in which he lives and raises his family. Trevor felt that becoming a member of the Pedal for Hope team would be the most rewarding opportunity for him to achive this due to its deep community involvement and the partnership it forms with the youth in our schools.

Together we can make a difference!!
